DESCRIPTION:Joint Zoom event between the Foreign\, Commonwealth and Development Office and the British-German Association \nMEMBERS’ REGISTRATION \nJoin Minister for European Neighbourhood and the Americas Wendy Morton MP\, German Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andreas Michaelis\, former Cabinet Minister Lord Waldegrave\, and Senior Editor at The Economist Anne McElvoy at a virtual event organised jointly by the Foreign\, Commonwealth and Development Office and the British-German Association. We will take this opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon the momentous events of 1990\, where the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic were reunited following the 2+4 talks in which the UK was an important partner. \nThe event is from 12.30pm in London (1.30pm in Berlin) on Tuesday 6th October and will last one hour. \nSpeakers: \nWendy Morton MP\, Minister for European Neighbourhood and the Americas (Chair) \nAndreas Michaelis (Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Kingdom) \nWilliam Waldegrave (Lord Waldegrave of North Hill\, Minister for Europe at the time of German reunification) \nAnne McElvoy (The Economist\, Berlin correspondent for The Times at the time of reunification) \nYou can watch the event video here:

DESCRIPTION:Total War and European Society\n\n\nHow war and conflict shaped human society in Britain\, Germany and Europe \nA lecture by Professor Margaret MacMillan \nMargaret MacMillan is Professor of History at the University of Toronto and Emeritus Professor of International History at the University of Oxford. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature\, Honorary Fellow of Trinity College\, University of Toronto\, and Honorary Fellow of Lady Margaret Hall\, St Hilda’s College and St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. Margaret is also a Trustee of the Central European University in Budapest and the Imperial War Museum and sits on the editorial boards of International History and First World War Studies. \nHer published works include The War that Ended Peace (2014)\, a New York Times Notable Book; The Uses and Abuses of History (2008); and the international bestsellers Seize the Hour: When Nixon Met Mao (2006) and Peacemakers: The Paris Conference 1919 and its Attempt to End the War (2001)\, which won the 2002 Samuel Johnson Prize\, the 2002 PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize\, and the 2001 Duff Cooper Prize and was a New York Times Editors’ Choice. \nThere will be an opportunity to ask questions after the lecture. \nThe BGA is delighted to be co-hosting this event with the German Historical Institute London. \n\n\nYou can watch the event video here: \n \nPassword:BGA141020
