How we support Town Twinning
The BGA has initiated two key projects to support twinning partnerships and TTAs.
Fostering people-to-people links between the UK & Germany since 1947
Town twinning is a formal agreement between two localities (mostly in different countries), with the purpose of establishing closer people-to-people, political, cultural, educational and/or economic links. Most British-German twinning partnerships were set up in the 1970s and 1980s, and today there are 444 British-German twinning partnerships. Click here to see a list of all of the 444 British-German twinning partnerships.
Town Twinning Associations (TTAs) are voluntary organisations based in cities and towns across the UK that have been set up to foster specific twinning partnerships. You can get involved in town twinning by joining your local TTA. TTAs organise a range of activities, including trips for residents to and from their twin town, online exchanges and events with their twin town, as well as social events for their members. Some TTAs also support the establishment of links between schools, organisations and groups in the twin towns.
The BGA has been able to identify around 270 UK-based TTAs.Click here to find out if your town/city has a TTA.

Best Practice Guide:
Many TTAs share similar challenges. The BGA has therefore prepared a best practice guide to provide TTAs with ideas on how they can overcome these challenges and reinvigorate their activities. You can access the guide by clicking here.
BGA Regional Representatives:
The BGA is appointing regional representatives across the UK, to support TTAs at a regional/county level. Click here to find out more about the work of our regional representatives and how you can get in touch with them; if you would be interested in representing your region for the BGA, you can get in touch with us via the contact form.
Keen to debate contemporary UK-German issues? Interested in German history and culture? Or do you just want to meet like-minded people over beer and pretzels? In any of these cases, the BGA is for you. Join us now and become part of a dynamic and growing network of British-German relations enthusiasts.
The BGA is now playing a greater role in British-German relations than ever before. We receive no regular funding from any Government, and our income from individual membership fees covers less than a fifth of our running costs. So we are reliant on donors to continue and expand our work. Your support is hugely appreciated.
