The Rise of Right-Wing Populism in Germany and the UK
Join us on 19 January 2026 from 6.30 to 7.30pm on Zoom for a timely online discussion on the rise of right-wing populism in Germany and the United Kingdom with Petra Schleiter, Jonathan Olsen and Ed Turner. This event, jointly organised by the BGA and the International Association on the Study of German Politics (IASGP) explores the social, economic, and political forces driving these movements, how they differ across national contexts, and what their growing influence means for democratic institutions and public discourse. Featuring expert insights and audience Q&A, the event offers a nuanced look at one of Europe’s most pressing political developments.
Petra Schleiter is Professor of Comparative Politics and a Fellow of St Hilda’s College, University of Oxford, and is Director the Centre for Democratic Resilience
Jonathan Olsen is Professor of political science and the Chair of the Department of Social Sciences and Historical Studies at Texas Woman’s University.
Ed Turner is a leading expert on German politics and is also interested in comparative politics, notably in the areas of political parties, federalism and public policy. He works as a Lecturer at Aston University.
